About
Professor Sankaran Chandrasekharan is a Consultant breast surgeon with his NHS base at Colchester General Hospital. He has private clinics at Oaks Hospital, Colchester and Nuffield Health, Ipswich.
He has developed a practice in specialist breast surgery over the past 25 years and now works exclusively treating patients with breast cancer and other breast diseases.
He has also been involved in breast cancer research trials at both national and international levels.
Academic
Professor Chandrasekharan graduated from the University of Madras medical school in 1984. He undertook further advanced training in surgery in India and received his Masters in Surgery in 1990 with a gold medal award for his performance.
He subsequently completed his FRCS with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1990 before commencing specialist training in breast surgery. His research interest led to him completing a Masters in Oncology from the University of Birmingham in 2000. He has continued balancing clinical work with research and recently been appointed an Honorary Professor at the University of Essex in recognition of his research with the Biological Sciences Department.
